5 Healthy Food “Pretenders”

Health Food Pretenders

As a bride-to-be, one thing that you’re likely doing right now is analyzing each and every food that you put into your mouth.  It’s imperative that you are eating the right total number of calories to reach your weight loss goals and taking in healthy food with the right blend of the main macronutrients (protein, fat, carbohydrates).

But, where some brides do tend to go wrong is completely mistaking some foods as healthy when they’re anything but.

Let’s have a look at five of the worst ‘healthy’ foods that you might be consuming and outline why they are so disastrous for your diet plan.

Au Bon Pain Blueberry Yogurt

Yogurt is often thought to be one of the healthiest dishes that you can consume and while it can be healthy, not when you order out.  Especially if your choice of restaurants is Au Bon Pain.  This version of yogurt is going to be loaded with calories, containing 700 per serving! That’s more than half of what most brides need to be taking in to see weight loss success.

In addition to that, it also contains 91 grams of sugar as well, so definitely not in your best interests.

Learn why restaurant food is never the best option.

Quizno’s Large Veggie Sub

If you’re out and about running wedding related errands and didn’t have time to pack yourself a healthy lunch, you might think that picking up a submarine sandwich is a wise decision. After all, subs are supposed to be the healthy choice, right?

Depending on what you choose.  Go in for a large veggie on wheat sub from Quizno’s and you can think again.

This sub contains a whopping 1000 calories and 54.5 grams of fat. Plus, it contains your full intake of sodium as well, so will most definitely cause you some issues with water weight gain.

Go for a small turkey sub instead and leave off the cheese.

Smoothie King Smoothies

If you feel like something refreshing to drink and figure a smoothie is your best option, again, this isn’t quite the case.  While if you prepare a smoothie yourself it can definitely be a healthy addition to your diet plan, if you order out and opt for Smoothie King, prepare for a massive number of calories.

These blended drinks contain hundreds of calories and are often quite high in sugar as well. For example, the Smoothie King Cranberry Supreme contains over 1100 calories and 192 grams of sugar.

That is not going to appropriate for anyone’s diet plan.

How eating like a cave-woman can make you lean and sexy on your wedding day.

Ruby Tuesday Avocado Turkey Burger

You’d think that a turkey burger would be a smart choice, but again, you’ll want to think twice about that idea.  If you order up a turkey burger from Ruby Tuesday, you’ll be facing 1300 calories and 73 grams of fat, much of it saturated.

If that doesn’t send you running, I’m not sure what will.

Starbucks Apple Bran Muffin

If it’s breakfast on the go and you’re picking up your morning coffee at the same time, you might opt for Starbucks apple bran muffin.  You know that getting more bran in your day is an excellent way to boost your fiber intake.  But, not where this muffin is concerned.

The apple bran muffin will pack in 350 calories and only 6 grams of protein, which isn’t nearly enough to offset the 34 grams of sugar that it contains.  Eat this and you’re in for a blood sugar roller coaster ride.

So there you have some of the top ‘healthy’ foods that you have to watch out for.  If you eat these thinking you’re doing something favorable for your weight loss goals, you are one bride who is in for a shock.

Wow, I choked a little reading that the yogurt I love so much has 700 calories in it!!! Yikes! Guess I’ll stick to the fresh fruit cup next time I’m there! A HUGE thank you for pointing that out, Krista!

I am deeply disappointed after reading this. Nearly all the foods mentioned here are loved by me. The only reason that I order food from outside is because I don’t have time to prepare it at home and with these healthy foods turning out to be fake, I think I’ve left with no option 

I wonder if there’s any food out in the market that is healthy. Come on, our busy schedule doesn’t allow us the time to make food at home. There must be some healthy option out there.

  5. I always thought that yogurt is healthy food to eat. Thanks for posting this one.
